about

When Aurelia came up with the band name "The Royal Bones', I immediately came up with a title "A bright neon sign of the times." While the title is whittled down, the song carries the same idea of dealing with something so obviously gone awry and you can't fix it. --J

lyrics

When my head is full, and my thoughts are cheap
I like to walk downtown and absorb all of the sounds
These neon lights and obnoxious signs
They tell me of a better time.
The sidewalk is rough- rough and disappointed
All these unfamiliar words in my mouth
I don't understand, I can barely feel it
I used to know these streets so well

And it was out back, you took my heart under attack
Sold it for pennies, and you profited richly, well
When I have nothing left, speak for yourself
You can't resuscitate what always been dead.

Carry me away, baby
I forgot what it was to be captive
Peel me open and then you'll see
There's more of you and less of me
You infect me
You make me sick
You're in my skull, you run around

You own me, you have me.

The one thing that gets deep under my skin
Is having someone know exactly how to make me itch
You see under me; I'm translucent
Under the muscles and the blood, right to my intentions
I can't fight you, I can't hurt you
I can't control my reaction, you hold the trigger

When I have nothing left, speak for yourself
You can't resuscitate what always been dead

Carry me away, baby
I forgot what it was to be captive
Peel me open and then you'll see
There's more of you and less of me
You infect me
You make me sick
You're in my skull, you run around
You own me; you have me

And these neon lights and obnoxious signs,
they tell me of the coming times
And these neon lights and obnoxious signs,
they warn me of the ending times
And these neon lights and obnoxious signs,
they guide me through these dying times
And these neon lights and obnoxious signs,
Oh, they show me...
