about

I wrote this song during her freshmen year of high school. It's the only song I kept untouched from then and it's the first song I showed Jordan that I wrote. And it was the first song The Royal Bones ever played. The song has a dark-humor take on relationships that become controlling and unhealthy. --A

lyrics

Snake only strikes when you set it free
Oh, my love turned again on me
Bit, coiled, launched, and hit the target
As long as you were aiming to poison my heart

He spoke in monotone
Just to stop the measly drone, I said
"I know you ain't tellin' the truth"
My presence paralyzes the honest side to you
Baby, as if there were an honest side to you

Don't understand myself.
I keep coming back for more
He's got me by the throat
He says, "Hit the floor"
And I do hit the floor

He can taste the bittersweet
He knows he dissatisfies me
Oh, look, he's made me a drone
Now I sing monotone
Yeah, I sing monotone

Don't understand myself.
I keep coming back for more
He's got me by the throat
He says, "Hit the floor"
And I do hit the floor

Don't understand myself.
I keep coming back for more
He's got me by the throat
He says, "Hit the floor"
And I do hit the floor
