My job in childcare made me privy to a host of different family situations. One family in my care split up, and one of the parents moved on only a few days after leaving their spouse. Their child took it very hard, and their behavior did a 180. It was very clear that a lot of choices were being made without the children in mind. At first I sat down to write a song to write about irresponsible parents who chose to think of themselves first and the children last. Instead, this song came out from the viewpoint of the child who is being neglected, who would rather be yelled and put in time-out than ignored. At first it was hard to write, because I was watching the situation unfold, and I can only imagine if the parent kept ignoring their child's hurt and kept riding their hormone-ridden high, that it would end in a very dark way. --A
